Mobility Radeon 9000 Review
Tom's Hardware has a review of the Mobility Radeon 9000 which will hopefully be making it's debut in the revised PowerBook G4 1GHz come late September. Like the desktop Radeon 9700, the Mobility Radeon 9000 is top of the crop for notebook graphics at the moment. (kendall)

Look Ma, No Mouse!
After reading a story on Slashdot last week about a touchscreen iBook mod, I really didn't think much of it until finding yesterday that the entire Admissions department of my college uses touchscreen enabled 15" LCD iMacs. Two word, simply amazing. I stood in awe as a dozen iMacs were being used seemlessly without mice to do just about everything OS X is capable of. It was almost as if the GUI was designed unintentionally to be used with a touchscreen. Needless to say, I want one. Check out the link below for more information about touchscreen enabled Macs. Overclock Your 2002 iBook
Xlr8yourmac has a how-to for overclocking your 600 and 700MHz 2002 iBooks to 800MHz. Since you don't see the ability to do this often with Macs, I found it quite interesting. This is certainly not for every users but the tech-savy should have no problem. Also, I have no iBook nor any way of testing this hack so apply it at your own risk. For those of you able and willing to test this hack, please post your results in our comment section below. A 100 to 200MHz increase would certainly provide increased performance. >=] (kendall)

Past And Future Combined To Fight Windows
Remember the roots of Mac OS X? No, I'm not talking about Mac OS 9. I'm talking about how NeXT's operating system was transported to the X86 platform as OpenStep. How OpenStep was ported to PowerPC as Rhapsody. How Rhapsody finally became Mac OS X. The most common part of all these operating environments is what we nowadays call Cocoa.
The object oriented application development platform is based on Objective-C, which is an objective derivate of the programming language C.
The folks at GNUstep have ported (read: are in the process of porting) 'Cocoa' to the Linux community. OSOpinion has a column about how the Linux and Mac OS X application development market could be combined, as those frameworks are highly compatible. (fryke)

Once Upon A Time In Cupertino...
eWeek has a new article about Mac OS X on X86. The project dubbed 'Marklar' is basically just the ongoing process that didn't stop when Apple did not release the final version of the Rhapsody project (Mac OS X Server 1.0) for PC Compatibles. According to the source, which is ThinkSecret's Nick de Plume's source, Marklar is up to par with the latest Jaguar builds - but does not contain the Carbon APIs that would be necessary to run the 'interesting' applications like MS Office or Adobe's and Macromedia's software applications. As far as we know, the Carbon APIs have long been ported to X86, too. However, do not expect an X86 build of Mac OS X near you anytime soon. Apple is building those builds, but it's not in their interest at all to have it released (or leaked) unless it sees any profit from it. Next year, maybe, maybe never. (Contact us, though, if you get near such a Marklar build.) (fryke)

The September/October Predictions
AppleExpo Paris is going to take place. Seybold Conference is going to take place. And maybe a little special event, too. While some people tend to believe that there's not going to be any new hardware 'til 2003, we don't share this view. This autumn will bring us PowerBooks (933, 1000 MHz G4, BlueTooth inside), iBooks (700, 800 MHz G3 'Sahara' processors, BT unlikely but rumoured all the same), iPod II (QuickTime Media Player device, top of the line iPod). Plus we'll see iCal and iSync on our computers. AppleWorks 7 will be introduced and iMovie 3. These are good times ahead! (fryke)

It's a pity. It's really a pity. But Sherlock - outside of the US - is useless. Almost completely. The services included make no sense at all. It tells me that my location doesn't exist, for example. It makes no sense. I've disabled US services and activated Swiss services. Huh? I expected to see no services at all, but nothing changed - there they were. The US services. May the American people be blessed and all, but I think Apple could have made a better job here. What is Apple Switzerland for? Support? Nope, phone calls are answered in Scotland. Btw. Jaguar 6D42 Observations
Having had the chance to try out this build of the Jaguar 10.2.1 update, the first thing I noticed is how much more responsive the GUI seems to be. I was disappointed to find that in 10.2, the Dock and different effects such as Magnification and Genie still seemed to be a bit sluggish, much like they were in 10.1. Fortunately, the performance of these effects seems to be noticeably improved. Minimizing and resizing windows in and out of the Dock or while opening and closing them from the finder are especially fluid. Perhaps this is due to tweaks in the QuartzExtreme engine though this can neither be confirmed nor denied since no readme files are contained within the installer. More information as it becomes available. (kendall)

Addendum
It seems that you can transfer files between AIM users that are not using iChat though for some reason it doesn't always work. The first time I tried it just gave me an error beep when clicking on the file transfer button, not allowing me to open the window to choose what file to send. Then, after the person using AOL's AIM disconnected and reconnected, it worked. Unfortunately, after I disconnected and reconnected it stopped working again. After closing the window, typing a few lines of text then trying again it for whatever reason decided to work, again. I guess to say it "works" is an overstatement though saying you can't transfer files between clients wouldn't exactly be true as well. >=P (kendall)

My Take On iChat Thus Far
Since using iChat for the past several weeks, I have come to enjoy its many wonderful Mac-esque features while at the same time, becoming more and more disappointed with its several limitations.
For starters, wouldn't it be nice if AIM and .Mac users could communicate with each other considering the client can be used for both types of accounts? Also, today I found out that even though I can communicate with AIM users who are using AOL's AIM client, I couldn’t exchange files with them, only other AIM iChat users.
While this isn't the end of the world, it does make iChat a difficult IM client to adopt. Perhaps future updates will address these issues. What I would most like to see though is the ability for users to create plug-ins allowing iChat to work with other IM clients such as ICQ.
I must say though, for it's initial release, it is quite an amazing IM. The brushed-steel and bubble text dialogue boxes make it wonderfully unique, as if IM has been reinvented. Also, the sublet enhancements such as how users icons pulse as they go offline or how their unique icon is displayed in the Dock when their window is minimized make for a feature rich IM experience. Overall I'm impressed with iChat but there is definite room for improvement. (kendall)

TinkerTool 2.3, Mac OS X 10.2.1
In the ReadMe-File for TinkerTool 2.3, which runs on 10.2 and 10.1, the developer says: "We hope that Apple will publish an update for 10.2 shortly after the official release date (August 24, 2002). If this is the case, the next version of TinkerTool (which will support preference settings of Jaguar more specifically) can be expected to come out four weeks after the release of a Jaguar build with higher product quality." So, no: TT 2.3 does not contain any new features over 2.2 for 10.1. But about four weeks after 10.2.1 we can expect to get some. Jaguar Observations
By now we all know about Finder's new search function, iChat and Sherlock 3 but what about the 147 other Jaguar improvements that have yet to be touched upon? Well, as I continue to explore Jaguar and make new discoveries, I will post my observations about the little, overlooked improvements I and maybe even you might find interesting.
To start things off, this morning I found that OpenGL games such as Warcraft III now span the entire width of my PowerBook G4s LCD. In 10.1, PowerBook users were stuck with black bars on both sides of the screen because of it's odd resolution. A subtle yet welcomed improvement.
Also, Mac Help has been improved upon greatly. The interface is a lot cleaner and easier to navigate and now, when connected to the internet, you download the latest help automatically. A brilliant way to keep new and even seasoned users up to date.
Feel free to chime in to our comments section below with any improvements you've found worthwhile in Jaguar. (kendall)

Crippled FTP In Finder Put To Good Use
Now that many more people are actively using Mac OS X 10.2, I'd like to share a tip that makes the crippled FTP function of the new Finder actually useful. Go to the Finder and mount ftp://ftp.mozilla.org as a volume, by entering the address into the Apple-K (connect to server) dialog. Then browse the fileserver and locate the latest version of mozilla or chimera. There's a .dmg.tar.gz file, right? Just double-click it. Rather than first downloading and then unstuffing the file, StuffIt Expander will just open the file, give an error and let you expand the archive to the desired location. You've just eliminated a few steps in the process of getting the latest nightly builds of those browsers, I guess. (fryke)

Editorial: Why An Apple PDA Would Be A Bad Idea (And The iPod II A Good One)
Steve Jobs said that Apple wasn't gonna make an Apple branded PDA, because that market was a) already saturated and b) PDAs just weren't 'the thing'. People who buy PDAs think he's wrong, but I've got an explanation why he isn't. And it goes as follows. Ever since PDAs came about (be it a Psion or a Newton that would claim first place) people wanted 'it' to be more than it was. Look at today's functionalities of PDAs to see what I mean, and some reasons why PDAs are bad: a) Games (a GameBoy is simply better at this task, the buttons of a PDA are not made for gaming etc.), b) MP3s (PDA's operating systems are not *made* for media playback, their batteries are restricted and an iPod or other MP3 player is simply far better suited for the task, also the lack of cheap memory forbids the PDA to be a real media player), c) Watching Movies (same reasons, basically, plus screen quality & size). What Apple *definitely* has understood is that if you want an MP3 player, you buy one. And if it's one of the best, you'll buy it even more. Thus, the iPod was created. Now if you want a media player device, why would you buy a PDA? Not because a PDA is a great media player, but because there ARE no great media players. You would end up like every PDA buyer: You would expect (or at least want) more from the device. And Apple is going to feed a need here: The need for a portable media player. If that device can (further on) also feed other needs like, say, PIM features, that wouldn't be bad, either. (fryke)

'Hide' Option In Dock Menu
Some utilities are so great. And even free. 'Hide from Dock' (although an irritating name) adds a 'Hide' option to the Dock menu of running applications. It does this by unveiling a Dock.default that is normally unset. Works fine with Jaguar, didn't test on earlier systems. (fryke)

IBM's PowerPC 'Son of Power4' @ 2.0 GHz?
MacUser magazine (UK) reports that IBM aims at a speed of 2.0 GHz for all its next versions of PowerPC processors. Whether this will include the G3, too, is not mentioned, but a G3 @ 2.0 GHz with IBM's SIMD engine (similar to AltiVec™, it's already in the 700 MHz processors of the latest iBooks!) would make a good mobile processor to go with the Son of Power4 PowerPC processor, even if - marketing-wise - it would seem like a step back from the G4 processor. But why not simply name them G5 (Son of Power4) and G5 mobile (newer G3)? We will know more, when the Microprocessor Forum takes place: See an older article on mac.fryke.com... (fryke)

New York Times Jaguar Review (YaJR)
The day is coming. Sadly, we haven't heard more details about the exact date for iCal & iSync... The review is a good read, although nothing new - for us - is revealed. Ex.: "But if you're the kind of person who gets satisfaction from, say, the hushed thump of a Lexus car door closing, it's the little things in Jaguar, the grace notes, that may mean the most in everyday work." - "Even so, Mac OS X 10.2 is the best-looking, least-intrusive and most thoughtfully designed operating system walking the earth today." Goodbye Jaguar, Hello "Panther"
With its next release of OS X not even officially out the door, Apple has turned their attention to the next major update to OS X, code-named "Panther." Formerly known as "Pinot", "Panther" is expected to debut as 10.3 and house Junkyard, a rumored file recovery utility. Could this early name adoption of Apple's all too familiar feline fancy (10.0 was Cheetah, 10.1 was Puma, and 10.2 as we all know will be Jaguar) indicate "Panther" is farther along than expected? Perhaps a March 24, 2003 release for 10.3 is not out of the question. (kendall)

DoveBid.com To Auction Apple Hardware
On August 30, 2002, DoveBid.com will be auctioning unspecified new and reconditioned Apple computers. It would seem Apple is likely trying to move inventory in preparation for the release of updated iBooks, PowerBooks and possibly faster iMacs as noted in past stories. This would certainly coincide with our speculation of new PowerBooks on or around September 26, 2002. (kendall)

Wrapping Up MOSR's Long Rumour
While we think MOSR has done a good job in writing their long piece of Sunday-News, there's really not much 'new' information inside it. It feels more like a MacEvangelist's Hope & Glory festival. But it's a good read. Here - in short - what it's about and what's new... HyperTransport, RapidIO. nVidias motherboard chipsets. (Nothing new so far and we're halfway down the report...) IBM Power4 derivative PowerPC is mentioned as the solution. Sounds good. 18 months away. We can't confirm this information, as IBM has been very quiet about the processor it wants to show off on the Microprocessor Forum on 15. Oct. 2002 (see mac.fryke.com report two weeks ago). iMac & eMac updates 'near the end of the year or later'. Hmm... PowerBooks at 1 GHz 'no later than February next year' sounds good. 'It may get an even more powerful graphics accelerator than the Mobility 7500' doesn't sound like information to us, sounds more like 'intelligent guessing'. (Of course the next PowerBook will have better graphics.) Last item: iBooks. MOSR says, there will be a standard 13" model and a widescreen 14" model. A long wrap-up, we're sorry. It's not that we don't like MOSR (we actually do like them normally, very much so indeed. But to promise a big report with just a mishmash of old information, new guessing and, maybe, some real insider information isn't what MOSR should push late on their Sunday evening's, we think. What we can confirm with our own sources (although they may be the same people writing to MOSR, of course) is the 14" widescreen iBook at 933 MHz. But our sources claim that the 'normal' model will stay at 12", as this model has been incredibly well accepted in the market.

New iPhone Rumours...
The New York Times has a story (free reg. required) about Apple & iPhone. - Our take: Most of the 'cited proofs' point to the iPod II (aka QuickTime Player), but of course we won't put off the iPhone rumour entirely, mainly because it would make sense for Apple to release an iPhone. Difficulty of world-compatibility aside (we sure hope it'll be GSM/HSCSD/GPRS Bluetooth and IrDA compatible) - Apple could (like it did with iPod) just leave 'the rest' in the dust and finally bring on a phone with a good design and good functionality. Not that SonyEricsson's T68i is too bad, nor Nokia's communicators and smartphones like the 7650 (although too big, all of them), but design is more than just the hardware. Apple can make good UI-design to go with it.

Pinot & Junkyard Rumours
Spymac has an article about Pinot (Mac OS X 10.3, probably) and Junkyard (if Spymac sources are right, Junkyard will be some file recovering utility). Seems to us like Junkyard is going to be another application only .mac users will get their hands on. Although we'd hate that, as we're no .mac users... ;-) Spymac also states that both things (although unrelated, as it seems) should be shown at MWSF in January early next year. Pinot available on 24. Mar. 2002, perhaps?

New PowerBooks 26. Sep. 2002?
Apple's education website says: "And for a limited time, you can save up to $380* off the retail price of a PowerBook G4 -- this includes up to an additional $150 savings on top of the regular Apple Store for Education Individuals discount. Act now, this special back-to-school offer expires September 25, 2002." - This sounds like a good date for the introduction of new PowerBooks. Rumoured for the next round are 1 GHz processor (probability: high), Bluetooth integrated (high), SuperDrive in the high end (low). The reason why we set the probability on a SuperDrive equipped PowerBook on 'low' is that the first drives for notebooks just won't fit into the current PowerBook Titanium design. But of course Apple could redesign the PowerBooks. Their design is good, but hasn't been changed for 1.5 years.

Jaguar may contain a security issue
According to a thread on AppleInsider.com, Mac OS X 10.2 Release contains a severe issue in its SSL implementation (and the services compiled with it) that should be fixed by the time Jaguar arrives at the stores via a small update, probably already 10.2.1. We tend to think that Apple will have a Security Updater available via Software Update soon, and that 10.2.1 will only appear there later on, probably along with iCal and iSync in September. Around the world: People too negative?
The introduction of the all-dual PowerMacs shows me two things: 1. There are too many iWhiners who will never be content, anyway, 2. Most of the negative comments come from people who misunderstand the marketing behind the new PowerMacs (and the old ones, probably): These are the 'professional' machines, dual processor UNIX workstations for developers and graphics pros around the world. This isn't your momma's iMac, but it's neither your neighbour's game-station Pentium4 system with WinXP, it's a real computer for getting real work done. Spymac has lift-off again? ;-)
Jack Campbell - a reader of spymac.com, writes in his column about the 64bit IBM PowerPC that he believes this processor is here already and that we'll see the new PowerMacs filled with them. Jack is a bit picky on the words of the Microprocessor Forum online flyer, as he states that the present tense makes him assume the chip is ready for the market. We think he's way off, of course. We stick to our original story about the new PowerMacs: They'll use the PPC 7470, a new G4 processor from Motorola. But we'll see tomorrow, we guess.

iPod II (QuickTime Player Consumer Device)
Details known so far: iPod form factor, the front being a reflective TFT screen with 640*320 resolution, digital camera (3 MegaPixel), Toshiba harddrive (20+ GB), stylus and/or finger input ("thumbable"), MP3/AAC/QuickTime/MPEG-4 playback, FireWire connection (for power and data transfer, like iPod), interface a mix between iTunes and iPod (simple, fast), voice recording (it's basically THE journalist's tool with voice rec. and digicam). Price: The device should be expected to be marketed as the top-of-the-line iPod. Availability: Unknown, probably before the christmas buying season. This is one cool (and probably expensive) gadget. It's not a PDA exactly, but like the iPod can be extended with address and notes features, the iPod II will also be much more useful than it initially appears to be.

Extended Report on Mac OS X 10.2 'Jaguar' - Part IV
Testing on a snow iBook/600/combo revealed that the antialiasing setting 'best for LCD' isn't colour based like on the TiBook. Whether there's a technical reason for this (maybe AltiVec™ is used for this in Jaguar?) or a marketing differentiation between the iBook and the TiBook is not known at the moment. (The graphics adapter in that iBook has the same specs as the TiBook 500.)

Extended Report on Mac OS X 10.2 'Jaguar' - Part II
Having moved all my E-Mails to the new Mail.app, I can give some more comments on Jaguar. The new antialiasing-setting for LCDs is a true colour based antialiasing, like you may know from Windows XP (ClearType™) or Adobe Acrobat (Cool Type™). It looks perfect and sharp! The speed of Jaguar seems - overall - a bit faster than 10.1, but I couldn't really say. Some things work much smoother, other things (like Finder window scrolling) is just like before, sadly. Guess I'll do the prebinding thingie soon - plus a restart...

Extended Report on Mac OS X 10.2 'Jaguar' - Part I
Finally I've found the time to install Mac OS X 10.2 'Jaguar' - and write a report for you. So let's dive right into it. After starting up my Titanium PowerBook G4 500, I notice that the screen with the small classic Macintosh has been replaed with a nice, smooth Apple logo. After a while the installer comes up - and gives better options than any Mac OS X version to date. You can archive an old installation and install 10.2, upgrade to 10.2, erase and reinstall and so on. You can also choose which language packs to install, which reduces the overall size of the installation. After I've made my decisions, the installer is now writing the usual packages to my volume (I've chosen a different one than my 10.1.5 volume for this first install). This process may take a little less long than with Mac OS X 10.1, but I'm not really sure anymore, how long it has taken in the past. After the installation, my TiBook is being restarted. The startup - and really everything 'Jaguar' - looks smoother than older versions of the Mac OS. From the first boot screen to the Finder (and then on and on), Mac OS X 10.2 is one smooth cat, 10.1 and earlier looks comparably rough. The furry look of the OS X page on apple.com seems very well chosen. Okay, here we are, the Finder. The flatter look of all GUI widgets really makes a better impression on me. I've usually used a grey theme on Mac OS X, but I guess I'll try and use Aqua again - although, of course, the graphite variant. I'll have to try some things right now - I'll write on soon. Stay tuned...

Please tell him he's wrong ;-)
In yet another article on how Apple should move on to X86, some author writes that Apple is wrong designing good PCs. He says "I haven't a clue." - and he's of course right, although there should be the word 'got' in that sentence. Please flame him.

First statements about Bluetooth™ and Jaguar 6C115
You'll find a comment in French under this link. It says that with the D-Link Bluetooth™ adapter, Jaguar works very, very well. Even file transfers to a SonyEricsson T68i have worked wonderfully. vCard exchange seems to be dependent on iSync, though.

IBM 64bit PowerPC - how near?
IBM will discuss its forthcoming 64bit PowerPC processor line at the microprocessor forum. Seems to be based on its Power4 series processors, aimed at desktop (high end) workstation market. Sounds good to us. But this processor probably won't see the market (or even a Mac motherboard) before the end of 2003...

nVidia motherboards?
Spymac.com has an article on possible nVidia motherboards in the next (or the one after) PowerMacs. It's an interesting concept to de-CPU-ize multimedia and graphics tasks. It's been done before with great (technical, not financial) success with the Commodore Amiga in the late 80s. It would also make perfect sense considering that Apple wants to do this with Quartz Extreme. However, we don't think nVidia could be that interested in providing only Apple with these kinds of 'powers', although the partnership between the two companies seems quite healthy, lately. Fire off your comments, if you want to share them, below...

CommonSense Department Editorial: Microsoft
The last few weeks have shown a departure from Apple's wooing of Microsoft. Instead, Apple started to replace Microsoft software at the edges of Mac OS X. Examples? Mail.app has been improved with Jaguar. The 'need' for Entourage has been brought to a minimum, also because of the white rabbit 'iCal', which will appear in Software Update in September. But there's more. Apple has started to use Chimera and OmniWeb as their browsers in demos (for example the Xserve demo was shown on Chimera for speed). And then there's the forthcoming attack on Office directly with AppleWorks 7. Apple is also pushing OpenOffice.org. But will this lead to a viable solution? Will the Macintosh be a true competitor once Microsoft will leave the Mac market? (Its only money-maker software is Office, which Apple obviously wants to be able to replace. And once Office sales sink enough, MS will leave this market.) There are two things to hope for: 1.) MS will leave the Mac market for good, but only when 2.) the Macintosh can be competitive with other office solutions. If you have comments on these statements, fire away at comments@fryke.com!

Jaguar Builds (again)
While 6C115 has left Apple's buildings for production, Apple is preparing the rollout of a few applications, including iSync, iCal and AppleWorks 7 (we have an earlier post on that one, too). Jaguar 6C119 has been finished, and in the release notes, there are statements about compatibility issues of Jaguar with those applications as well as Apple Remote Access 1.02. Some of them will be ironed out inside the applications, but it seems like others have to be corrected in Jaguar. So expect a (small) update to 10.2 soon after its release on the 24. Aug. 2002.

More thoughts 'Apple on Intel/AMD'
David Coursey has his own thoughts about Apple computers running off Intel/AMD processors. His thoughts aren't that bad, we think, although we're still believing in the G5 processor (knock on wood!). Before writing him the usual flame-mail, think about that he mentions 'in a 18 month period'. Nobody's talking about 'switching' here & now.

QuickTime Player (iPod II)
New information about the item previously mentioned on mac.fryke.com: The QuickTime Player, aka iPod II. The same source with the last information says that the device has a 3 Megapixel camera and can double as - quite a good - digital camera. All combined, this will be the media device on the market. (No information about the price yet, though...)

Weekend Roundup Edition
The last week and this weekend brought quite a bit of information. Read older posts about AppleWorks7 & Office Suite, the new PowerMacs and Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar" Golden Master - as well as PDA Rumours along with the anticipated QuickTime Player consumer electronics device. And about that Jaguar GM: The final verdict is still not in, but we're positive that build 6C115 actually made Golden Master, although there have been later builds coming out of Apple. We'll know for certain when the box hits the shelves on 24. Aug. 2002.

AppleWorks 7 confirmed, AppleWorks 7 Office Suite pending...
We have received several mails in the last few weeks containing hints on the next version of AppleWorks. We first put them off as 'natural rumours', meaning that whenever there hasn't been a new version of an application for a while, there eventually will be a new version if the opposite isn't proven. Some rumours were about a complete rewrite of the productivity suite in Cocoa while others suggested a 'normal' upgrade in the plain old Carbon fashion. But lately, those rumours are accompanied by dates: AppleWorks 7 will be available for 79$ on 29. Sep. 2002. And it will be Cocoa. "Apple has seen that the Carbon version of AppleWorks wasn't exactly a posterchild application for Mac OS X." states one source. But of more importance to us here at mac.fryke.com: An AppleWorks 7 Office Suite should be made available for 129$ the same day, including the all new presentation tool (the one included in the consumer version is basically the one we know from AppleWorks 6 ported to Cocoa) and better compatibility with Microsoft Office. Various sources that mention the Office Suite also mention that the compatibility with MS Office was better than anything - except the original and OpenOffice.org (hint). Seems like there is some partnership Apple-Sun-OpenOffice.org going on...

New Apple PDA Rumours
PowerPage.org has a new Apple PDA rumour. While some of the 'details' sound a bit far off ('regular size harddrive'? that's a bit big...), other details remind us of the QuickTime Player gadget mentioned three entries below. This is getting more interesting. We'll gather more information next week and keep you updated.

Jaguar Builds Update
Obviously, there is some mish mash about the latest builds, concerning whether they're Golden Master builds or not. The builds however are clearly labeled as 'Final Candidates'. Even 6C117, which has just left Apple, isn't officially considered 'the' Golden Master. Other sources tell me that the GM has already been assigned and that Apple will ship a small update soon after the release of Jaguar on 24. Aug. 2002. We'll keep you updated. Things should clear up over the weekend, when the 'final judgement' information from Friday (the day the GM should be declared) moves in. Stay tuned...
[If you have any information about whether 'Pinot' ist going to be 10.2.1 or 10.3, send it to us via E-Mail!]

Jaguar GM or not?
Recent rumours say that build 6C116 is Golden Master. However, that build still includes a buglist and is officially the Final Candidate 2. CommonSense? We think a build around 6C120 will be the final version of Jaguar.

New information about the next Apple gadget
After the introduction of the most recent line of iPods, rumours about the next consumer gadget have ceased to flow in. But yesterday we got a new input from an old source. The 'QuickTime Player' gadget should appear in October, early enough for the Christmas season. It'll be iPod-like (could even be called iPod, too) and will extend the iPod features in the following fields: Video playback (MPEG-4), iPhoto companion, Voice recording capabilities.
